Record Store Day Black Friday 2023: A Vinyl Lover’s Paradise

Over 170 exclusive titles will be available at Record Store Day’s Black Friday event this fall, almost a misnomer since the event takes place on Nov. 24, 2023. There are a number of vinyl variants available — purple, gold, red, blue, green, marble, clear, and splatter-colored.

After years when hip-hop RSD releases were fewer than some fans would have liked, the number of classic hip-hop titles on this list clearly shows Record Store Days’ and the participating labels’ interest in celebrating the genre’s 50th anniversary with a great deal of product. Dr. Dre, Lil Wayne, Nas, De La Soul, Schooly D, Three 6 Mafia, and Digital Underground are among those with reissues or collections being released as exclusives or “RSD First” items.

On the day after Thanksgiving, approximately 175 exclusives will be released in independent stores. Annually, about half the number appears for the main event in April.

Record Store Day features some new names, like Kim Petras and Noah Kahan. RSD events have drawn crowds to stores for vault releases from the Grateful Dead, the Doors, Bill Evans, and Prince, among others.

A few of the highlights include Gram Parsons’ and Ahmad Jamal’s previously unreleased live albums, Joni Mitchell’s and Los Lobos’ rare or unreleased studio recordings, Post Malone and the Jonas Brothers’ hit sets, and Bo Diddley’s and War’s boxed sets.
