On October 12, 2023, Deanna Esmaeel, the mother of “The Sandlot” actor Marty York, was found murdered in her home.
Esmaeel’s boyfriend, Daniel James Walter, is still at large, and he has been charged with murder in connection with Esmaeel’s death.

As a result of an apparent suicide, Deanna Esmaeel, the mother of “The Sandlot” star Marty York and a deputy with the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Department, was found dead in her home on Thursday.
It has been reported that York, who is best known for his role as Alan ‘Yeah-Yeah’ McClennan on the show Home Improvement, was very close to his mother, according to most of his social media posts. Despite her death, he has yet to speak out about what happened to her.
Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office, together with the Del Norte County District Attorney’s Office, are investigating the death of Esmaeel, along with the Del Norte County Coroner’s Office. The body of Esmaeel was found at her home on North Bank Road, where she lived for many years.
Currently, the police are investigating Esmaeel’s boyfriend, Daniel James Walter, as a suspect in the case. In spite of this, the police did not release any further information regarding the incident since it is still under investigation as a homicide.
As the oldest graduate of the Del Norte County District Police Academy, Marty York shared a lengthy Instagram post in honor of his mom who graduated the academy in 2020.

I left the small town where I was born and raised, not far from here in Northern California, 30 years ago to pursue a dream in Los Angeles with my mom,” he wrote in his lengthy post. According to York, he and his mother had to leave the rest of their family behind to go to Los Angeles for the purpose of furthering York’s acting career.
As described in the original post, the two of them had “very little money” and “rented rooms in people’s houses to get by.” The rest of his family moved to L.A., but even the dynamic of their relationship changed due to the change of LA.
Deanna Esmaeel is the oldest person to graduate from this police academy, he continued, adding that she was 64 years old.
It has been reported that the actor was speaking out about the film in a past interview, in which he explained how many of the iconic lines from the film came to be, such as “You’re killing me, Smalls.”
In York’s words, As Squints said, “My clothes are going out of fashion” – ‘They are already Squints!’ That was an improvised joke. In Japan, they call that the ‘you’re killing me Smalls’ line.
He continued. As far as I remember, we used to joke about ‘your mama’ to each other when we were out on the field.
